The Frank Slide Area

Very good Interpretive Centre located here

Covers all the coal mining disasters in the area dating back to the 1900's

Canada's worst mining disaster (189 people in 1914) occurred near here at the Hillcrest mine

Many questions still surround the mining history here.

It did help start a strong union movement to support workers' rights

It also paved the way to the enactment of a workers compensation act

and the charging of employers for unsafe working conditions.
