The
Dragon dance (also known as the Lion dance) is led by a
drummer and visits homes and businesses. Heads of lettuce are left
hanging from a long rope to entice the lion. Once there, the dragon
dancers perform a ritual in which the lion cavorts around the room,
eats the lettuce, spits it out, and then eats a red envelop li
see, provided by the business or household. The dance is a
symbol that the dragon has scared away evil spirits and brought good
luck. Firecrackers noisily end the fête.
