- First state giving women the right to vote (1869)

- First woman to head the state government (Nellie Tayloe Ross, Wyoming’s first and only woman governor from 1923-1925)

- First women sheriff in the wild west (Esther Hobart Morris who, in 1870 became justice of the peace in South Pass City)
