The themes, form and artistic genius of Haida art reaches back millennia but during the past few centuries Haida artists have developed a unique sculptural art form using a local shale called argillite. No artists from other nations depict aspects of their culture in sculpture of this size and style, especially with such complex interweaving of shapes and figures.
