In the 1980's the Lolita style which started in Japan spread to the west and a corresponding subculture also developed in Switzerland

The style is characterised by doll-like make up, frilled skimpy dresses, ruffles, bows and lace



In the mid 1990's, young Japanese people in Harajuku used their clothes to distance themselves from the strongly traditionally oriented Japanese society
A garish mixture of Japanese designer clothes, western fashion and handmade clothes evolved
