VW Transporter - The Camper Conversion - Adding some sound deadening material....
After spending a reasonable amount of time looking at various options to help deaden the sound in the rear of the van (prior to the final trim panels being made)
I decide to go with two products from Pyrotek
The first is a sound damping tile material that essentially adds mass to the large panels to help stop the low frequency "drumming" typically found in vans
and.....
The second is a sound absorber foam material that helps absorb mid frequency noise
They are applied on top of each other with the damping material being installed first.....
This sound damping tile is known as Vibradamp V2SC
(see http://www.pyroteknc.com/vibradamp.html for technical details.... Nice stuff to work with!!)
Self adhesive back is very effective...
The second layer is known as Sorberfoam™ ALR
(see http://www.pyroteknc.com/sorber-foam.html for all its details - I used a good quality foam contact adhesive to glue this onto the first layer of Vibradamp V2SC)
I used the 12mm thick product as I want to keep as much free space in the van cavities as possible.....
The first layer of Vibradamp V2SC looks like this....
And here is a photographs of the Sorber Foam fitted.....
The final result is very impressive acoustically and will not retain moisture or mildew when sandwiched between the body panels and the final internal trim panels.
Thanks to the very experienced Rob Thomas for some excellent advice and suppling a great product at a reasonable cost. This job all up costed around $200 - very reasonable when compared to other products out there that have very little local technical knowledge.

(they also have offices all over the world)
