The first nations of the northern Northwest Coast are: the Tsimshian, Nisga’a, Gitksan, Tlingit, Haida, Tahltan, Heiltsuk and Haisla. They have a common language of art and ceremony. Through this they express their identity as defined by history and communicated in oral narratives, songs and crests. They are also linked to each others as members of one of the four clans – Killer whale, Raven, Wolf and eagle.
