Joggins Fossil Site - Page 4

These cliffs are were all the fossils are found

New fossils are exposed with every new high tide or storm

Interestingly NO actual "digs" occur here - only natural forces are responsible for new finds......

The area was a coal mine and the remains of its wharf can still be seen today

It closed 80 years ago.....

These timbers have been on the beach here for over 80 years!

Exposed tree stump in the cliff face

The red deposits are actually from the old Cool Mine remains behind these cliffs

All the steel (including rail tracks) are rusting away and leaching out via ground water

Leaf

This is the track of a millipede from the period......

A lot larger then current millipedes!

Not a tree root but an "Iron Knob" (apparently)

Need Professor Wells here for the day!
