Prototype version 2 - finishing the guards - page 1.....
Guards ready for top coating
Shown mounted on the base plate cover - Will be all one unit when finished
Looking like this.....
Guards with final sand and top coating applied
Once again, using a very hard wearing hammer tone enamel......
Completed guard after baking (100 degree C for 1 hour)
These match the repainted wheels
They can also be used for a mould if need in the future......

Tips on prototyping with MDF:
1 - After making your prototype piece from MDF, apply 1 or 2 coating of a very fluid sealer
In my case I use this product (only because it was in the cupboard)
The MDF will soak this up like a sponge and provide a good base for the next steps.....
2 - Then apply a coat or two of polyurethane and bake at 100 degree C it possible
(this will largely waterproof the MDF and stop it from "growing" if it gets wet)
3 - Spray a number of compatible prep coats over the sanded polyurethane
baking and sanding between coats if you can to get the desired standard of finish you are after
"high build-up" spray putty may also help if a very high standard is required
Then finally apply the desired finishing topcoat - In my case the product shown above was used.
This Hammered finish provides a very hard wearing surface for prototyping parts and works well on wood......
